Purse Strings was a huge success last year. Vicki Blackketter, with Women of Montana Tech, came up with the idea to host a purse auction to help Safe Space contribute to clients that have been financially harmed as a result of Domestic Violence. This will be the 5th annual fundraiser.
Safe Space would like to thank Amanda Badovinac, Director of Public Relations and Marketing at Montana Tech, for choosing to continue to support Safe Space through this fundraiser, as she is now in charge of this amazing event.

Wider Scope

Financial abuse is a very prevalent type of domestic abuse, that not many people think of, or even know what the term means. Financial abuse can include: not letting the victim work, (the abuser) refusing to work or contribute to the income, not including the victim in financial decisions, harassing the victim at the workplace, overspending on credit cards and bank accounts, controlling how income is spent, falsifying tax returns, and many more.
According to the National Network to End Domestic Violence, "It is estimated that financial abuse occurs in 99% of domestic violence cases, and surveys of survivors reflect that concerns over their ability to provide financially for themselves and their children were one of the main reasons for staying with or returning to an abuser."
