The History of Safe Space:
Safe Space, Inc., originally known as The Butte Christian Center (BCCC), began as a grass roots movement in the early 1970's by local women to address a multitude of needs in Silver-Bow County. Out of this endeavor, Safe Space was born, and over time began addressing the complex and specific needs of survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. Preventative efforts continue to be a priority in our program, as community education and awareness campaigns are at the foundation of our philosophy statement and the services offered by Safe Space. Safe Space provides clients with the tools needed to break the inter-generational cycles of violence, and helps in recognizing that they can gain control of their lives. We assist in identifying the avenues for emotional self-sufficiency, as well as the strength and right to refuse the unacceptable.
Services Offered:
Please note all services are provided FREE of charge.
Safe Space Philosophy:
Safe Space Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Program opposes
violence against body and spirit within the home and in the community. Acts
of domestic abuse are perpetrated primarily against women and children in
the family. These acts of abuse are the result of culturally sanctioned
patterns of dominance, coupled with society’s silent acceptance of the use
of violence.
Safe Space is committed to changing individual, social and
institutional attitudes and practices which sanction domestic violence in
our society.
Safe Space is committed to combating and preventing violence in the
home by providing advocacy, emergency and supportive services to victims and
their families, and be educating and involving the community in the process.
We affirm that social, economic and political equality between the
sexes can be achieved. When men and women acknowledge women’s rights to
equal status, and work together toward overcoming existing inequities, a
more just and fair society will exist for all individuals.
Safe Space is committed to empowering women so that they can
acknowledge their self-worth, realize their strength, and attain equal
status in both the home and the community.
