The Family Resource Center was first opened in 2012. The Family Resource Center located inside Jacobs House is used as a public location for Safe Space, this supports the confidentiality of the shelter and the clients using Safe Space’s shelter facility.  Clients that are not using Safe Space’s shelter can come into Jacobs House and use Safe Space’s other programs such as advocacy, financial assistance, weekly support groups, emergency 911 cell phones, emergency clothing, referrals, and information.  Clients using the emergency shelter also use the Family Resource Center because it is a more centralized location and clients can come and with the help of an advocate can work on things they need to accomplish in order to leave a violent situation.  Some examples of the advocacy provided at the Family Resource Center are helping clients obtain birth certificates, preparing for hearings, and writing letters to parole officers in regard to their abuser.

The Family Resource Center also holds biweekly volunteer meetings, this helps to ensure that our shelter location remains confidential.  The Family Resource Center also is used as a space to meet with and interview potential volunteers. There are currently 2 volunteers that come to the Family Resource Center a minimum of once a week.  These volunteers support the on goings of the Family Resource Center.  In addition to the 2 consistent volunteers at the Family Resource Center every week, our volunteer pool has increased because we have a space to hold volunteer meetings.

Another way that the Family Resource Center helps ensure the confidentiality is by holding weekly support groups for women and children.  The support groups have been increasing in participation numbers. When the number of people in support group is large volunteers come and help facilitate the support group.

The Family Resource Center also welcomes other service programs in the area to come and share information with us and clients.  Representatives from Family Outreach, Career Futures and National Affordable House Network have come to the Family Resource Center to meet with clients Safe Space is working with or to meet with advocates and share information about their programs.  Set Free Ministries, Jehovas Witnesses, The Church of Latter Day Saints and Aldersgate Church have come to the Family Resource Center and brought information for clients seeking specific religious information.
